Celebrating 2016 WA Beer Week

Craft Beer

Copper & Oak is joining in the festivities of the 2016 WA Beer Week on 11-20 November. The Western Australia Brewers Association (WABA) event is designed to celebrate all things craft beer in WA. As one of the largest craft beer stores in Western Australia, we like to show our support for the industry with in-store tastings and promotions. This year Copper & Oak is celebrating WA Beer Week with a mixed carton of premium WA beers for your drinking pleasure. The carton includes three different beers from eight of WA’s finest brewers.

History of WA Beer Week

Launched in 2002, WA Beer Week started with individual brewers holding events and tastings. In 2013 the Fremantle BeerFest kicked off with brewers coming together in one location to showcase their beers. Held on the Fremantle Esplanade, the event attracted 8,000 thirsty punters keen to try a range of beers and ciders and meet their favourite brewers.

Most of Fremantle and Perth’s brewers plus some from the Margaret River region and interstate put together 50 stalls with 200 craft beers and ciders. Weekend passes were available to ensure beer-lovers could sample the wide range. Some brewers offered food to compliment their beers and local restaurants were on hand to help feed the hungry mob. The event highlighted how much support the WA public has for the craft beer industry and BeerFest became an annual event.

2016 BeerFest

This year BeerFest will be held from Friday 11 to Sunday 13 November. Tickets are available for individual days or you can buy a 3-day pass from Fremantle BeerFest. All tickets include an official BeerFest cup. The 100ml tastings are around $2 each and a 285ml pour is priced between $5 - $7.

Beer Week Events

Individual brewers and hotels around WA celebrate Beer Week with a range of different events including parties, tastings, sundowners, brews, food and more. Check out the WA Beer Week website for details of events and to buy your tickets.

Cheers to WA Brewers

The number of brewers and popularity of craft beer in WA has exploded over the past decade and now beer connoisseurs are spoilt for choice. The award-winning Feral Brewing Company in the Swan Valley this week launched two new beers, War Hog and Perth Local. Feral describe the War Hog as ‘an apocalyptic hellfire of clustered hops and passionfruit aromas upon the senses.’ Perfect for morning drinking.

Perth Local is the first lager the company has brewed in seven or eight years. Feral Brewing Company has described it as ‘similar to a pilsner but non-traditional hops give it a different flavour that could not be considered true to style. It uses Mandarina Bavaria as a single hop, rather than noble hop varieties.’ Perth Local cans and bottles are branded in the distinctive WA gold and black colours.

Why not celebrate the best of WA with a different craft beer each day? Here are a few beers on offer in-store and online.
