Touriga Nacional
Touriga Nacional comes from Portugal and is a full-bodied, dark purple wine. The most common use for this grape is to make Port wine blends, but more recently it is becoming a sought after dry red wine.
When enjoying a bottle of Touriga Nacional you will taste strong flavours of blueberry, plum and mint. The wine delivers an assortment of strong fruit flavours and has a rather high alcohol content. Your palate will be covered with rich, sometimes grainy tannins.
The grapes only grow to a very small size which often causes extremely low yields. Scientists have been experimenting in recent years to try to clone the grape to produce higher yielding vines. If this proves to be successful, expect the Touriga Nacional to become a very popular red wine grape.
