Riesling

Hailing from the Rhine region in Germany, Riesling is a white grape variety.

The grape has strong flowery aromas, much similar to that of perfume. The grape is popularly used to make sweet, semi-sweet, dry and sparkling white wine. The grape is used heavily around the world. In 2004, it was predicted to be the 20th most grown grape variety. It is often referred to as a ‘top three’ white wine with Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Riesling is very popular in Germany. In 2015, 23% of all grapes grown in Germany was the Riesling grape.

Outside of Germany, Riesling is commonly planted in other notable wine regions including Australia, South Africa, California and New Zealand.
