Gamay
Originating in France, Gamay Wine is produced from the purple coloured Gamay grape. The Gamay grape is most popularly grown in the French region, Beaujolais.
The Gamay grape requires particular soil conditions to bring down the high acidity of the grape. Because of this, Australia struggles to produce Gamay wine due to their harsh climate conditions.
Gamay wine draws on many similarities as Pinot Noir. Fruity flavours consisting of strawberry, bear and raspberry are often evident in this popular light-bodied wine. The softness the wine has on the palette upon consumption makes it a desirable wine to have with food. In America, it is often a favourite drink at Thanksgiving meals.
Other noticeable regions where Gamay wine is produced are Canada, Switzerland and New Zealand.
