Tempranillo
Tempranillo is a Spanish red wine grape. The name translates to “early”, which is fitting because the Tempranillo grape will ripen before almost all the other grapes in Spain.
The Tempranillo grape has a thick skin with a strong, dark purple colour. The dark colouring of the grape makes way for flavours such as cherry, fig, tobacco and dill to emerge.
The neutral profile of Tempranillo makes it an extremely popular grape for blending with Grenache and Carignan. It is regarded as the third most popular grape in the world, with an estimated 570,000 acres of plantations.
The medium-bodied wine pairs nicely with roasted vegetables, pastas and a variety of Mexican food.
