The very first bottle of Maker’s Mark was released in 1958 after spending 5 years ageing to perfection. At the time of release the bottle sold for $6.79, and although the price has changed over the years, the recipe has continued to remain the same.
Bill Samuels Sr, the former Maker’s Mark Master Distiller and founder, was instrumental in the companies success in its early years. He would not take a wage for many years and would have to wait until 1967 for the company to turn a profit of $1,000. Bill Samuels belief in his bourbon would eventually pay off, and in 1980 the Maker's Mark distillery was named a National Historic Landmark.
Maker’s Mark regularly hand roll their barrels to guarantee they are continually exposed to different temperatures in the warehouse. No amount of detail is spared in their complex process. They still hand dip each finished bottle in red wax, just like they did for their very first release. With Maker’s Mark, you can expect to taste strong caramel and vanilla notes with a delicate, smooth finish.
